“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~Jeremiah 29:11
The Road Behind
What can one say about a life of serving the Lord for well over forty years? It has been an amazing journey and it’s not over yet! We’ve had the privilege of serving the Lord in a number of churches, and at AG Headquarters in Springfield, MO.
The Road Beneath
Every day in the Kingdom is a good day, some are just better than others! Yet we greet each new day with anticipation for what the Lord has in store for us. Presently we are in Carthage, MO and enjoying serving as Family Life Pastors.
The Road Ahead
Where will the road ahead take us? Only the Lord knows for sure. We listen for His calling and await His direction in our lives. Each new day brings new opportunities to serve and the promise our “hope and future” that God has planned for us.

Overview
I believe that at the end of our time on earth we will be judged regarding our relationships with others in how we treated them and how we spoke to them. The way we view relationships, touches and affects every area of our lives. Our marriage, family, church, business, government and just plain ol’ everyday living. The old saying that actions speak louder than words is true.
…
It may be important for us to define two key words to our adventure: Terrific and Toxic. Terrific: Marvelous, wonderful, sensational, outstanding, great, superb, excellent, first-rate, first-class, dazzling, out of this world, breathtaking; fantastic, fabulous, super, blue-ribbon, magical or awesome. Toxic: Poisonous, virulent, noxious, deadly, dangerous, harmful, injurious or unhealthy. These two words will set the pace as we venture down the pathway of developing good relationships.
…
Building genuine, solid relationships is essential to everything we do throughout our lives. Relationships make or break our lives in many ways. When we understand we are to put on the traits and personality of God, it changes how effective we are as ministers, parents, church leaders, neighbors, or customers. Buckle up!

The Adventure Begins:
“Seek to understand, not to be understood.” John Palmer
The journey of ministry has brought one important truth home to me as a person, as a minister, as a friend, and as a family member, but most importantly as a Christian. Building genuine, solid relationships is essential to everything we do throughout our lives. Relationships make or break our lives in many ways. The way we do business at the local grocery store, at our bank, or even in the way we treat the mail carrier has effects. How we treat our neighbors or that unwanted relative is crucial to our relationship with God. When we understand we are to put on the traits and personality of God, it changes how effective we are as ministers, parents, church leaders, neighbors, or customers.
I believe that at the end of our time on earth we will be judged regarding our relationships with others in how we treated them and how we spoke to them. The old saying that actions speak louder than words is true. Words are easy to speak, but it is often harder to do what we know is right.
My prayer is that as you read this book and listen to the training, you will be inspired and challenged to a greater level of building relationships that will last as well as be meaningful. Choose the high road, moral road, in your dealings with people in your personal and church family and with those in the secular world. In the end, we will be judged by our relationship with people and how we treated them both as persons and as equals. Many times we lose the eternal battle for a lost soul because of our attitudes and actions as “Christians.” We often fail to realize that when we put the “Christian” label on our lives, we represent the Creator and Lord of our lives.
As we begin, it may be important for us to define two key words to our adventure: Terrific and Toxic.

Bob Strand:
“In real estate there is an axiom that shouts: ‘location, Location, LOCATION!’ In the art of successful living it shouts: ‘relationship, Relationship, RELATIONSHIP!’ Jim Gerhold has given us a guidebook on how to build and sustain these necessary Biblical relationships. Take your life to a more fulfilling level…read the book!”
* Former Lead Pastor of their home church Park Crest in Springfield, Missouri, where Jim and Kathy attended while on staff at the HQ office of the Assemblies of God.
Tommy Thompson:
“Relationships: Terrific or Toxic – when Jim sent me the book I thought, that sounds just like who Jim is. We served on staff together at Church of Glad Tidings in Austin, Texas for over six years. We worked together and became good friends, but a relationship developed that I have valued now for over thirty years. Jim understands the importance of relationships and has translated his experience into this book. He establishes the vital entry keys through a scriptural foundation and personal illustrations that make the truths real to life and easy to grasp. Jim Gerhold has given us a great resource that will help you on your personal journey.”

Toby Schneckloth:
“Relationships: Terrific or Toxic is a unique and different way to communicate what relationships are all about. Jim brings to the table thought provoking ways and ideas in how to develop good solid relationships that last a lifetime. Jim chooses to use ten words that all begin with the letter T in presenting you, as an audience, important factors in relationship building.”
